2024 has been a year of fast growth for Culmore Clinic. We have so much for which we can celebrate and give thanks. We are fortunate to have a community of more than 100 volunteers and staff who come together to help our neighbors in need.

It’s best said by our new mission statement, approved by our Board of Directors this past spring:

“Culmore Clinic is advancing health by bringing the community together to provide medical services and health education to our neighbors in Fairfax County at no cost to them.”

You’ve Made an Impact With Us.

Serving almost 900 patients;

Culmore Clinic exists to eliminate obstacles so that patients can receive barrier-free healthcare. Primary care services, offered at no cost to our low-income patients, are the foundation of Clinic services. This year, we’ve grown at a rate of an average of 40 patients a month. Your donations help us continue to keep up with our growing patient load.

This year we launched a medical precepting program.

It is important for new medical practitioners to understand the unique healthcare challenges experienced by historically marginalized populations. Our work with the Shenandoah University PA program, as well at the George Washington University School of Medicine, give PA students and medical residents experience with working with patients from many cultures.

Eyes are a window into overall health.

Culmore Clinic patients have access to our state-of-the-art vision suite for complete eye exams. Ophthalmologists and optometrists often see clues in the eyes that warn of health issues elsewhere in your body. Diabetes and hypertension are among the health conditions with co-occuring eye symptoms.

Seeking mental health care has become less stigmatized in recent years.

However, members of marginalized communities are still commonly experiencing discrimination that impacts their mental health. Thanks to a team of volunteer licensed counselors, Culmore Clinic offers onsite mental health counseling twice weekly. And, this year we partnered with the Virginia Telemental Health Initiative to access additional web-based counseling services for our patients.

Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes has become a common diagnosis across all populations in the U.S.

This disease occurs when blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. High blood glucose can cause other health problems over time, such as heart disease, nerve damage, eye problems, and kidney disease. To support our patients with Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes, Culmore clinic hosts patients in group education programs on diabetes management and nutrition.

Often primary care is just the first step in our patient's healthcare journey.


Two-thirds of Culmore Clinic patients have at least one chronic disease that might require further specialized attention. Fortunately, we have resources, both onsite, and by referral, to medical specialties including gastroenterology, cardiology and nephrology. This year, we've partnered with a Fairfax County based surgery center that enables our patients to access surgical treatment options.
