Tiêu điểm tình nguyện: Andrea Alvarado (Phiên dịch viên tiếng Tây Ban Nha)
Volunteers founded Culmore Clinic in 2007 and to this day it is still significantly volunteer run. Each month we like to spotlight one of the volunteers that ensure Culmore Clinic continues to provide quality, culturally sensitive healthcare at little to no cost to our uninsured patients.
This month we are spotlighting Andrea Alvarado, Volunteer Spanish Interpreter!
Andrea is a volunteer member of our Interpreter Services Team. Bi- and multi-lingual team members like Andrea help to ensure culturally sensitive care by enhancing patient-provider communication whether onsite or through telemedicine.
About why she volunteers at Culmore Clinic, Andrea says:
“I volunteer at Culmore Clinic because I love being able to help the providers communicate with their patients. My parents also do not speak perfect English and so I understand on a firsthand basis how important it is to be able to properly and comfortably communicate with one's medical provider. In addition, I love everyone at Culmore Clinic. It is amazing just how passionate everyone at the clinic is about being able to help fellow members of the community.”
Andrea has lived in Falls Church, VA her whole life. She attended K-8 at Saint Anthony's School which is in Culmore, so is very familiar with the community. She is currently a rising Senior at William & Mary College, studying Public Health while on the Pre-Med track. In her free time, she loves to paint, read, and bake!
About Andrea’s work at Culmore Clinic, Caroline Hillkirk, Volunteer Manager of Interpreter Services, says:
“Andrea reached out to us and, after training, quickly was able to interpret medically in a very professional manner.”
Anne-Lise Quinn, Culmore Clinic’s Executive Director says:
“I have heard nothing but positive feedback from our providers who have used Andrea's top-notch interpretation skills with patients. So glad to have her on board!!”
Thank you so very much for all that you do for Culmore Clinic and our patients, Andrea!
