The Loss of Someone Wonderful

Madeline Calabrese, who was a “Girl Friday” at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Alexandria for the last 18 years, died at her home in Arlington, VA on December 22, 2015 of complications from pancreatic cancer. She was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. In 1959, she married Francesco A. Calabrese and they were stationed in Japan. They had three children. They settled in Alexandria in 1967 and were divorced in 1975. She worked as a civil servant for the Army and retired from government service from the National Archives. She volunteered for various Catholic charities and at Dowden Terrace Pool. She loved being a mother, friend to all and watching her grandson play baseball. Madeline is survived by her three children, Antonio, George and Mariangela; her sisters Sarah and Toby; and four grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament, 1427 W. Braddock Rd, Alexandria, VA on January 9 at 12 Noon and a gathering will follow at Quinn Hall, Blessed Sacrament.
